About Roofing Quotes UK

Roofing Quotes UK is two things joined together. The first is a copy of the NFRC Competent Person Scheme register, the list of roofing contractors that government has licensed to certify their own work against the Building Regulations, arranged so you can find the ones near you. The second is a set of pages about what roof work costs and what changes the price, written so an owner can read a quote and know which questions it has not answered. The quote form passes an enquiry to contractors covering the address.

Why this site exists

This site exists because the two questions an owner actually has, what will this cost and who should I let on my roof, are answered almost everywhere by a lead form and nothing else. The register is public and nobody had made it easy to read by area, and the cost pages that do exist mostly quote a range with no source and no explanation of what moves it.

Who it is for

Property owners in the UK with a roof that needs repairing, recovering or replacing, and small commercial occupiers with the same problem on a bigger building

Not roofers sourcing materials, not self-builders specifying a system, and not anyone shopping for cladding, decking or a driveway

What it does not do

  • No ranking of contractors. The register pages list who is on the scheme in an area and what roof types each is registered for; they do not score, rate or order them, and no contractor can pay to change what they say.
  • No invented prices. Where this site prints a figure it names the document it came from and the date it was read, and where a figure does not exist it says so instead of estimating one.
  • No claim that a scheme registration is a guarantee of workmanship. It is a licence to self-certify against the Building Regulations, which is a different and narrower thing.

What is on this site

7 guides, each with its sources on the page , 38 answers to the questions around them , and the directory.

  • Roof repairs: A roof repair is a bounded job: a slipped tile, a failed valley, a flashing that has parted from a chimney, a felt that has split at a joint.
  • Roof replacement: Replacing a roof is a bigger job than most owners expect, because the covering is the cheapest part of it.
  • Flat roofing: Flat roofs are not flat and are not one product.
  • Conservatory roofs: Most conservatory roof enquiries start with the same complaint: the room is unusable in July and unusable in January.
  • Garage and shed roofs: Outbuilding roofs get replaced more often than house roofs because they were built cheaper and looked after less.
  • Commercial roofing: A commercial roof is bought on downtime rather than on beauty.
  • Roof surveys: A roof survey is worth paying for at three moments: before buying a house whose roof you cannot see, after a storm when an insurer wants evidence, and before spending on a repair you suspect is the wrong repair.
