When repair stops being the cheaper option
Three signals. The same slope has been repaired more than twice, which means the fixings or battens have failed generally rather than locally. The underlay is visibly perished when you look up from the loft, so the roof has lost its second line of defence. Or the repairs are being driven by nail sickness on a slate roof, where the slates are fine and everything holding them is not. At that point the money spent on repairs is a deposit on the re-roof it is postponing.
